Printer
Printer is an output device used to print output on paper. Printers are mainly of two types
In these types of printers there is mechanical contact between the printer head and the paper.
E.g. Line printer, character printer, dot matrix printer, etc.
Non-Impact Printer
In these types of printers there is no mechanical contact between the printer head and the paper.
E.g. Inkjet printer and laser printer

- Impact printer

Types of printer
Dot Matrix printer (DMP)-DMPs print one character at a time. In these printers, printer head contains a vertical array (Series) of pins (Can be 7, 9, 18, or 24), and to print a character, selected pins fired against an inked ribbon to form a pattern of dots on a paper. DMPs are an example of an impact printer because there is mechanical contact between the printer head and the paper.
Inkjet Printer (Non-Impact Printer)- Inkjet printers are non-impact printers in which characters are formed by small droplets (drop of ink) on the paper.
Laser Printer (Non-Impact Printer)- Laser printers are the printers that use laser light to produce an image on a photosensitive drum. The surface of the drum gets electrically charged when it exposed to a laser beam from a laser gun then charged portion on the drum attracts ink powder known as toner, the toner generates a replica (copy of what is to be printed) to form output on the paper.
Laser printer provides high-quality printing at a very fast speed. These printers are noiseless and print 10 to 15 pages per minute.
